SURF CITY, NC (WECT) - The Surf City Volunteer Fire Department received a $310,032 grant recently, and the department's chief says Congressman Mike McIntyre called himself to tell them the news.
The fire chief says he was very happy when he found out, because it will go towards equipment the department badly needs.
Some of the items it will help fund are AEDs, air packs for the firefighters, turnout gear, and a washing machine to clean the gear.
"Ensuring that our fire departments have the resources and tools they need to do their job is a priority for me," said McIntyre in a release. "I am pleased these funds are coming home to help the Surf City VFD. Congratulations to the department."
The US Department of Homeland Security awarded the funds through its firefighters assistance program.
