Big week ahead for Hope For the Warriors®

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WECT) - The charitable organization Hope For the Warriors® is gearing up for a big week in the Jacksonville area.

 The 8th annual Run For the Warriors® will take place this Saturday at Jacksonville High School. You can register from now until Wednesday and pay $25 for the 10K, 5K and 1-Mile race.

However, online registration closes this Wednesday at midnight.  You can learn more by going to www.hopeforthewarriors.org/jacksonvillerun. You can register in person on Thursday, Friday and the morning of the race at packet pickup. The prices go up after Wednesday to $65 for the half marathon, $30 for the 10K, 5K and 1-Mile races.

Saturday night, a local veteran named Travis Hanson is going to participate in the Mini Stock Mayhem Hope For the Warriors® 250 at the Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville.

YWCA Lower Cape Fear receives $15, 000 grant award for the fluid recovery program

(Wilmington, NC, May, 2013) -  The YWCA Lower Cape Fear is pleased to announce that it has received a $15,000 grant from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation for the Fluid Recovery program, which was developed in partnership with the Pretty in Pink Foundation. The Fluid Recovery program is modeled after the YWCA USA’s Encoreplus program that was created over 30 years ago.

Topsail leaders decided to delay decision on pay parking

TOPSAIL, NC (WECT) – The Town of Topsail has decided to hold a public hearing before making a decision on whether they will switch to pay parking.

The town manager says the hearing will take place later this summer.

The town has been considering several options, which include metered parking of having people purchase daily or annual passes.

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Two kids in Pender County are taking a break from video games and dolls, and giving back. Dylan Minor, 7, and his sister Emma, 5, are raising money for people in Boston.

House moving could cause delays in Topsail

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC - (WECT) - Topsail Beach officials are warning people to be aware of potential delays on Topsail Island early Wednesday morning.

Officials say a house moving will take place and delays could occur from 9am until noon.

Officials say the house will be moved from 1612 Carolina Blvd to 1311 North New River Drive in Surf City. Delays should be expected on South and North Anderson.
