SURF CITY, NC (WECT) – A new program to help beginning runners will kick off soon in Surf City, according to a news release from the town’s parks and recreation department.
Walk to Run is aimed at increasing participants’ fitness levels while having fun and staying fit. Classes will start Sept. 25 and will be held Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 8 a.m. Sessions will be approximately an hour to an hour and a half.
Instructors with the program will help lead warm-ups and make sure participants walk or run at a comfortable pace.
The training introduced in the program will lead up to the first annual 5K Bridge Run scheduled for Nov. 17. The 5K, which starts at 4 p.m., will begin at the Surf City Community Center and end at Soundside Park for a Christmas tree lighting.
Folks 14 and up are allowed to participate. The cost is $80 for Surf City Community Center members and $95 for non-members.
Registration must be completed by Monday, Sept. 24. You can sign up at the Surf City Community Center, located off of J.H. Batts Road, or call 910-328-4887.
