HAMPSTEAD, NC (WECT) – Folks in Hampstead are enjoying the North Carolina Spot Festival this weekend.

The festival celebrates the spot fish, which can be caught off the NC coast in late summer and early fall.

The Spot dinner is one of the highlights of the annual event. Festival-goers can purchase a Spot dinner, which includes two pieces of Spot, French Fries, Cole Slaw, Hush Puppies and Tea.

The Spot dinners are being served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The event also includes live music and arts and crafts.

Organizers say the event is the biggest festival on the east side of Pender County and gives the area a fall tourism boost.

Proceeds go to Topsail Schools and the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department.

This is the 49th year for the event.
