SURF CITY, NC (WECT) – Surf City Community Center offers a variety of workout classes, and Spinning is now one of them.

The town’s Parks and Recreation department recently purchased Spin bikes, according to Athletics Supervisor Steve Unger, and the department will be teaming up with Mad Dogg Athletics, Inc. so that the center will become a certified Spinning facility.

The cost for any cycle class is $5 for community center members, and visitors will also pay an additional $5 fee. Bikes are limited, so participants are encouraged to sign up ahead of classes they’d like to attend each week.

Bikes will be reserved only until class starts.

Instructor Linda Carlsen will be integrating indoor cycling into her 6 a.m. boot camp routines Tuesday and Thursday mornings, renaming it Cycling/Boot Camp as of March 12. Additionally, she’ll teach a Monday 8:30 a.m. cycle class with a strength and conditioning component.

Instructor Leigh Powell will teach Tuesday and Thursday classes at 5:30 p.m. and a Friday class at 6 p.m. (the community center will extend its hours to 8 p.m. on Fridays).

Athletics Supervisor Steve Unger will teach the Wednesday 8:30 a.m. class, and will offer spin/yoga on a special event basis.
