PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Students a Topsail High School are putting the pedal to the metal in hopes of bringing home a big trophy.
The school's Electric Vehicles class will head to a competition in Roanoke Rapids next week, where they'll be graded on how well their vehicle performs and on their knowledge of electric cars.
The kids have been fine tuning their electric cars and studying hard.
“It’s just exponential how much we have to learn,” said student Matt Vanderwall. “We have to know these cars like the backs of our hands.”
Later this year, they'll work on converting a gas-fueled car into an electric car.
They’re hoping to sell it to the school to make some money for the class.
