PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Students, parents, teachers and school faculty with schools on the east side of Pender County are getting an added boost to their school year thanks to a recent grant from a community business.
Lowe's Heroes is a companywide volunteer initiative that offers Lowe's employees the opportunity to work on a project in their own neighborhood, helping to make their communities better places to live, work and play.
This year, the Lowe's in Hampstead is reaching out to five eastern Pender County schools for a beautification project.
Each school will get nearly $1,000 for a renovation of their choice.
For example, a special needs classroom at Topsail Elementary will get a much needed remodel, while South Topsail Elementary will get a boost to their front entrance-- making the landscape more welcoming to visitors.
All the projects will be complete by November.
