South Topsail hosts Thorpe Science Night Friday

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – South Topsail Elementary will hold Thorpe Science Night Friday as they participate with the North Carolina Science Festival.

Schools across the state applied to participate in this festival.

Vendors from the community are included in South Topsail’s science night activities.

The event will take place at the school Friday night, 5:30-7:30.

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Five Pender County students recently took home awards at the Regional Science Fair, which was held at UNCW.

Afterschool science adventures kick off tomorrow

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The first of several afterschool science adventure classes will kick off tomorrow in Pender County.

According to visitpender.com, classes for ecological marine adventures meet once a week for two hours for 12 weeks.

These classes are a way for children to explore the outdoors and learn about the ocean world through hands-on activities, experiments, collection, observation and adventure.

The classes take place Tuesday afternoons, 3:15-5:15 through May 7.

Transit of Venus caught on cam

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The transit of Venus Tuesday night was the last one of any of earth's human inhabitants will see in their lifetimes. It won't happen again for more than 100 years.

A transit of Venus is when Venus crosses the disk of the sun from earth's perspective.

Tanya Hume captured part of the transit Tuesday night. She took the picture above of the Venus tranist in Surf City. She submitted the picture to WECT via See it, Snap it, Send it.
